Week 81 – Curico, Chile

We had a good week this past week.

So to start off, we had zone conference. It was pretty great. We talked about the doctrine of Christ, as well as helping investigators vencer adicciones. It was really great. I realized that I wasn’t being as direct as I should be with investigators.  Almost all of the investigators have some sort of addiction.  There are a lot of people who want to stop their addiction, but they just don’t know how, so as missionaries, we can’t just be general and talk about the atonement or repentance, because they still won’t have a specific plan of how to leave the addiction. It was great.

Also, I made a Book of Mormon case out of an oatmeal box this past week, which is pretty cool. I’m in the process of putting cool pics on it, so it doesn’t look like I’m just walking around with an oatmeal box with scriptures inside, haha.

Elder Theiss and I are going great. We almost got our bikes stolen the other day, haha. Chained them to a pole in the wrong neighborhood, and we went to go contact like a block away, and then, like 20 mins later, some kids ran over to tell us that some flaites (or gangstas) were sawing through the chain!!  We booked it over and they ran away.  It was like 3 in the afternoon, too. Its my first flaite (sketchy) sector, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.  It’s a lot more crazy.  I’m definitely more of a tranquilo campo kind of guy, but it’s fun.

Anyways, have a great week guys!

Week 80 – Curico, Chile

Hey ya’ll-

We had a pretty dope week.

Honestly, I do loving being here in ward Bombero Garrido. There are a good amount of members who are willing to work with us.  We had two noches de hogar (family home evening) this past week at 2 different member’s houses, so it feels really relieving to have support from the unity.  I feel like my whole mission, I have been fighting to try to get the branches to help in the obra as well as in the branch, but being in the ward is just great because there are people who actually care about us and who put the lord and their callings first.  It’s awesome.

With the work, we are doing good. Contacting and talking to lots of peeps in the streets. We’re seeing some pretty good fruits, too. Got some pretty dope new investigators.

I freaking love Elder Theiss.  He’s from Curitiba in Brazil, and he’s just a funny guy.  He contacts really well, and it’s as if he’s just talking to people naturally like they are his friends. I’m learning a lot from him.

This week, we have zone conference, so that will be dope.

I love ya’ll. Have a great week.

Week 78 – Almendroza, Chile

This has been a dope week!!!

The highlight of the week was General Conference! For those who don’t know what that is, it’s basically when we get to hear talks and messages from men and women who have been called by God to lead us.  It was very inspiring.  We got to hear from our recently called prophet, President Russel M. Nelson.  I absolutely loved it!  It has been my favorite general conference that I have ever seen.  I felt the spirit during every talk, and I received a lot of answers to prayers during the conference.

We were also able to sustain our prophets in a solemn assembly.  This basically means covenant or commit to God that we will obey and follow their teachings.  I am very happy and grateful for a prophet who guides us in our days, as we listen to his counsel.  I am a changed person after this conference.  I know that there are many things that I am going to do differently.

The rest of the week was pretty dope, too!  On Saturday, we received changes, and I’m leaving.  I’m going to go back to CURICO!  WOOOO!!!!!  I love Curico.  I’m going to be in the ward Bambero Garrido, so that will be fun.  My companion will be Elder Theiss.  He’s dope.  He’s from Brazil, he’s got like two more months in the mission than me.  Also, Teno is going to be in my zone, so I’ll be able to do intercambios there.

Anyway, I know that we have prophets on the earth, and I love to be able to share it with all those here in Chile!

Love,

Elder Halverson
