Week 73 – Almendroza, Chile

HOLY FETCH!!!!!!! QUE BAKAN MAN!!!!!!!!  I can’t believe Chase got his mission call to Finland!   I LITERALLY SCREAMED HERE IN THE CYBER!! Wow!!! That’s so dope!!!!

FREAKIN DOPE!!!  I bet he’s so excited!!!

I’m feeling way good. We’re working hard, going strong, it’s great! Today we had a zone activity. We played this game called signs with the zone, then we played soccer, then ate completos.  It was fun.

The weather here is nice.  It’s getting cooler — this morning it was kinda chilly. The summer honestly hasn’t been that bad this year.

This week we have got some intercambios, district classes, etc.  In the consejo de mision, Pres. Harris told us that our focus is talking with everyone. We have a mission goal of doing 200 contacts per week.  So we’re gonna be focusing a lot on talking with peeps on the street.

Everything here is good. I freaking love my comp. He’s super great.

Have a good week!

Week 72 – Almendroza, Chile

Hey guys,

This week was absolutely awesome.

So to start off, on Tuesday, to prepare for the Elder Christofferson conference, we had a conference with the whole mission!!!! It was awesome.  We had to travel to Rancagua with the zone, to the stake center there.  Then we took pics and we had lunch together with all the mission. I saw all my friends from the mission!  Then we started our fast and we had a training from Pres and Hermana Harris. We talked about what it means to take upon us our cross. Also we talked about Christofferson’s talk from this past General conference. It was a great training.

After the conference, all the missionaries who weren’t from Rancagua went to stay with members for the night, because we were going to leave early the next morning. We stayed with Familia Cabezas from Ward Cachapoal. They were super nice. Then we got up early to go San Bernardo.  We took big rental buses there.

When we got there, we had to sit on one side of the chapel, and mision Santiago Sur sat on the other side! So then we just waited in there, until Elder Christofferson arrived. When he got there, also was there Elder Bragg, who had come to our mission a few months before, and then we got to shake everyone’s hands. The conference itself was just great! The mission presidents and their wives spoke.  They started off with their testimonies and then Elder Bragg shared a message about the Book of Mormon! Super great!

Then Elder Christofferson finished with just an awesome training. He really is a prophet of god. He’s also kinda a jokester, too, haha. He told a lot of jokes, but everything he shared really was inspired, and through the spirit. Also, he always used the scriptures to explain everything. Just a great great conference.

Afterwards, I was able to say hi to Matt Hendrix!!!  We didn’t get to talk too much because we had to go so fast, but we took some pics (also, Dad, Matt’s crazy comp says hi, ha ha).

So that was definitely the highlight of the week. Also we got changes, and I’m staying another change here in Santa Cruz, but I get a new comp, Elder Chavez. He was my zone leader when I was in Peor es Nada. He’s super dope. He’s got one change more than me, and he’s from Arizona, but his parents are from Mexico. It’s going to be great. Excited to keep working here.

Anyways, love you guys. Have a great week.

Week 71 – Almendroza, Chile

Hey everyone!

This has been a pretty great week.

We had zone conference this past week, and it was pretty cool. I got to see my last comp Elder Smith, as well as some of my good friends in the mission. We talked a lot about Repentance and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It was fantastic. I love arrepentimiento!!!!

Also this week, we had an awesome activity!!! Basically, we have these giant posters that have questions of life, like where do we come from, what happens after this life, etc. We put these posters in places with lots of people, and tell people to tell us which question calls their attention, and then help them contestar it with the libro de mormon. IT WAS SUPER AWESOME! We went to Nancagua, and we had it in a feria (which is like a market). We had a lot of people stop to participate and we were able to give out a lot of Books of Mormon.

Also, we had an open church in Peralillo, that was super dope, too. It’s like this tour that we do, where we invite a bunch of people on the street, and also members bring friends, to come and see what we do at church! It was great. Both Nancagua and Peralillo are super small campo towns, but a lot of people participated, and it worked out great!

Overall, just awesome things are happening here in Santa Cruz. This week is gonna be great because we have a conference with Elder Christofferson, a prophet of God, and I’ll see Matt Hendrix, and we have a mission conference the day before!!! So life is just great right now!!

See ya’ll next week!

Week 70 – Almendroza, Chile

Hey guys!

This week was awesome.  Full of miracles and kind of crazy.

So this week, we had a big focus on finding new investigators. We made it a zone plan that every sector finds 7 NEW INVESTIGATORS. We knew it was going to be hard, but everyone in the zone committed themselves to doing it, and it went super well. We all worked really hard in the week, focusing a lot on contacting, and talking with everyone in the street, etc. It was cool because all the missionaries were always calling each other to verify and see how it was going, so a lot of unity was built. And then at the end of the week we did it and more!! We got the most new investigators in over 7 months, maybe more.

It wasn’t necessarily what we did that got us a lot of news, but really it was the fact that the Lord saw our commitment, and blessed us with prepared people. That’s a reason why I love the mission. We don’t have to be super talented to have success. We don’t have to speak the language perfect, or be a good people person, or anything like that. We just need to show the Lord through our faith (belief and action) that we really believe in his power and we will act and do our best. Once that happens, the Lord can bless us. And, of course, there will be days when we cant see those blessings, but we will be able to have confidence knowing that we have done all that we can.

Yesterday was my birthday.  It was so crazy.  At like 2 in the morning, I got a call from the branch president, and I was like what, nah chao, so I went back to bed.  But then he kept calling so I was like, what the heck.  But then I realized I was alone, the other elders weren’t in their beds!  So then I get up and I’m like what the heck. I figured it was a prank.  Then I see a candle being lit on the other side of the room so I go to the other side of the room, and then on the wall, in fake blood, it said “TENGO TUS AMIGOS” which means “I have your friends”.  And then I’m like really tired, and also freaked out because I don’t know if they are going to do anything. ALSO in the background, they downloaded these creepy shouts of like a “ghost crying” and they hid it in the attic, so it was really loud and echoey, so I was freaking out.

I went to turn on the lights, but then I saw they had taken out all of the bulbs!!!  So basically I just had a flashlight in the dark with creepy ghost screams at like 3 in the morning.  I was basically like looking all over the house to find them so I could punch them!!!  Honestly, I was super duper scared, like I’ve never been so scared and mad and with so much adrenaline.  I like kicked a fan, and shattered it. They had locked me in so I beat the door.  And I was like left there for 5 mins just running around the house looking for them, and then I was  about ready to go into the attic (where i thought they were) when I heard them open the front door and they all said “happy birthday!!!!!!!” They literally had been planning this for like a week and a half!!!

And there was a bunch of candles around the house and they had written creepy messages on all the mirrors and windows!!!  IT WAS SO CREEPY.  After that, I couldn’t fall asleep until like five because I thought they were going to do something else.  But it’s all good.  It was pretty funny.

Then a family from my old area in Peor es Nada came to visit me!  They were driving around Santa Cruz looking for missionaries to ask where we lived.  They found my housemates and came to find me and wish me a happy birthday.  It was my old branch president there.  They are so great.  I couldn’t believe it.

Well, the mission is great.  I love Heavenly Father, and I love Chile!

Have a great week!
