Week 64 – Peor es Nada, Chile

This was an awesome week!
To start off, we had the branch Christmas party on Saturday, and it was soooo awesome. We arrived early at the church to set up everything, and to be honest, we were freaking out. Everything we did to prepare was only like half set up, all at the last second, so Elder Smith and I were pretty nervous. But then people started showing up, and the members all brought like family members inactive and nonmember friends, so in total we had over 30 people at the activity!!! It was seriously a miracle!!!
We watched the nativity video that the church made, then we ate food and played Christmas games. Then the primary did like a nativity play, which was super cute, then viejito pascuero (Santa Claus in Chileno) came and gave candy to the kids and Books of Mormon to the nonmembers. Overall, it was just a huge success.
Also, we have like a tiny little neighborhood (the only one in the sector haha) and then yesterday night, on Christmas day, we went to the Christmas tree that we had built, and played secret santa with all the neighbors. It was super fun, every one was all singing Christmas carols and eating Christmas cookies and whatnot. It was very Christmassy.
Christmas day was also pretty fun. We went to Chimbarongo and then played some football (like american football this time, lol) and then we ate Brazilian beans and rice for like the xmas lunch, and then we watched my favorite Christmas movie ever, It’s a Wonderful Life! It was suuuuper awesome. I totally cried at the end. And then we did our Christmas calls to our families there, because no one actually has internet that works in Peor es Nada, so we did them at the church.  It was so awesome.
Overall, just a great week. I hope you all had a merry Christmas.  It was pretty awesome here in Chile.
I love you all!

Week 62 – Peor es Nada, Chile

Hey Guys!

This week has been pretty crazy awesome.

We had zone conference on Thursday.  It was really good.  We talked a lot about charity and how we can help others during the Christmas season, as well as preach the gospel.  We also did this cool activity where we made little sack lunches and then we gave them out to people on the street.  It was cool.  I gave my sack lunch to a blind beggar on the street.  It was really special because the guy was really happy to receive it.

We also had a cool branch service activity on Saturday.  Basically, we taught the branch how to make Christmas gingerbread cookies, and then we all decorated the cookies and divided them up so that we could go give them to all the neighbors.  Overall, it was pretty cool.  Everyone loved the cookies, which is good because Elder Smith totally kind of winged it at the last second, lol.  We have never made Christmas cookies before, but we looked up a recipe online, and then brought all the stuff.  They were pretty tasty.  Also, one of the menos activos (less active members) is deaf, and she had brought some of her deaf friends, so they taught Elder Smith and I how to communicate in Spanish signs.  It was a ton of fun because they were teaching us how to do jokes and whatnot in signs!

We also did a crap ton of service this week.  That’s honestly one of the things I like most about being in Peor es Nada because we get so many opportunities to do service.  We did a lot of grass cutting, farm work, etc.  Overall, it was sick.

Sunday was pretty good.  We had solid attendance.  We have a new program where for the second hour of church we have Sunday School all together and then Elder Smith and I take turns teaching the class.  It was my turn yesterday, so that was fun.  Then in third hour, we planned for the big Christmas activity, which we’ll have on the 23rd of December.  Overall, it’s going to be fun.  We’re going to watch a Christmas video, then play games and eat food, then we’ll have a little play of the nativity.

Also that day, we went up to Rancagua to have a meeting with President Harris.  Basically, we talked to him about the branch/sector, informed him about what is going on, asked for his ideas, etc.  It was just a fantastic meeting.  I’m so grateful for the support of President Harris.  He really is so willing to help us.

Overall, just a fantastic week.  I love you guys!

Week 61 – Peor es Nada, Chile

So this week was great!

To start off, we had changes! I am staying another change in Peor es Nada!! And Elder SMITH is going to be my comp again!!!! I can’t believe it.  We are so pumped up. We are going to grind so hard. Tomorrow, Tuesday, in the morning, I am going to go with Elder Garcia to the bus terminal in San Fernando and then he is going to head to Talca, and then I wait with the other missionaries until Elder Smith gets here. He called me last night, and we talked for a bit, and we are just psyched to get out and work, so its going to be a good change.
So in Peor es Nada, basically everyone is related to each other, and last week a girl had surgery in her eye, so a family of the branch who is related to her, had a big bbq and they invited us. There was so much meat!!! And in the campo, it’s all freshly killed and cleaned, so it was super good. They even grilled up some goat testicles! To be honest, they were really good, ha ha! I don’t know if that is the mission taste buds or what, but it was tasty!
It was pretty interesting.  The church did a face to face recently with Oaks and Ballard that was focused on the young single adults, and President Harris made us watch for district class. It was good. I learned a lot. But honestly, it made me pretty trunky. They spent a solid amount of time talking about marriage!!! To be honest, I am pretty excited to look for a wife lol, but I know that I gotta focus in the time that I have left to work here in Chile. So….lesson learned, focus on mish, then look for marriage, ha ha.
Nah, but it’s awesome. Love it here. Have a great week!
