Week 25 – Doñihue, Chile

¡Hola amigitos!

This week has been pretty dope.  I got a new comp!  His name is Elder Rodriguez!  He’s so dope.  He’s from Mexico and he’s so cool.  He has about 18 months in the mission.  He’s a great guy.  I’m excited to work with him this change.

Also, Elder Viola had an idea this week.  It’s in relation to mate, my favorite drink, lol.  We bought a pineapple and we cut it in half, then we carved it out, added the herbs and juice to it.  It was so friggin’ good!!!  The drink itself is really weird, but it’s so delicious.

It was Viola’s birthday this week, too.  On his birthday, we went to Hermano Willie’s house.  Elder Viola’s mom wanted him to celebrate his birthday for him.  So Hermano Willie bought a cake, and made us choripanes.  It was pretty dope!  But we ate so much food!  It was so funny.  He even got a pikachu on his cake because of his onesie of pikachu!  Hermano Willie is so great to us.

Our investigator, Migulina is not doing too great health wise.  We stopped by and only stayed for like three minutes because she had to rest.  The branch is starting to improve, too.  We have a new branch mission leader, and I think he will be good.  I’m excited to see.

Overall, it was a great week.  I hope you all had a great week.  Looking forward to general conference.

Week 24 – Doñihue, Chile

Hey Everybody!

This week was fantastic!!  We’ve been working with an investigator named Migulina.  We have been working with her for a while now, without a ton of real desire from her.  But this past week, we had a lesson with her, and she really opened up saying that now she is ready to change her life!  We asked her to be baptized and she said yes!!  And then yesterday she went to sacrament meeting!  It was absolutely amazing.  It felt like an answer to our prayers.  Elder Bernal and I have been praying and working like crazy to find someone who is ready to progress, and she is ready to continue to listen and act with a desire to come to God.  We are super excited to continue working with her.

Also we have changes this week, and it turns out that I am staying in Doñihue!  I am way happy.  I love it here.  I’m so glad that I get to stay.  I am going to receive Elder Rodriguez as my new comp.  I am pretty excited.  I have heard that he is really good, so it will be great.  I am a little sad to see Elder Bernal go because he is such a great guy.  He has helped me a ton.  He’s actually getting called to be a zone leader!  He’ll be great there.

Yesterday, we went to a member’s house to say goodbye.  It was kinda crazy because the member started playing music from Mexico, and then my comp flipped because he loves that music (he is from Mexico).  I took a video from a little bit and it is so funny, lol!  Overall, it was an awesome week.

Love you guys!

Week 23 – Doñihue, Chile

Good Morning, America!

This past week has been pretty dope.  The coolest thing that we did was we gave service to a member.  It was so fun.  He lives literally way out in the middle of nowhere.  We had to take an hour and a half bus, then a 30-minute taxi ride, but somehow he’s still in our branch, lol.  He’s a farmer, and we helped him clear out some of his land.  During the project, he pulled out one of his little carriages and a horse!  Then he let us all borrow one of his many chupallas (or cowboy hats) and we got to drive around the carriage.  It was so cool!

Also, after the service and everything, he gave us fresh milk and cheese to take home.  It was so much!  It was really good.

We also had stake conference this past week.  It was pretty good.  We were able to see all the missionaries that are serving in the stake.  Also, the talks that were given were good, as well.

As for the missionary work, Elder Bernal and I are going as hard as we can.  We are working hard, but something that is hard for us right now is finding people that are ready to change.  We have some people that like to listen to our message, but we are still looking for the person that wants to experience the gospel.

More than all, this mission has really increased my knowledge on what faith is.  Everyone knows that faith is a belief in what you can’t see, but I’ve seen that it’s more.  Not only is it a belief, but also it’s an effort to put your trust and all your action into it.  It’s a hope that is seen through what you do.  What I’m trying to do right now is to help people exercise this faith.  I definitely do not have a perfect knowledge, and I don’t know what’s right for everyone.  But I like to think that my time and effort here is helping people gain a testimony in God, and strengthening their trust in Him.

These past few weeks have helped me understand that I shouldn’t just help these people to be baptized, rather for them to understand that there is a Father in Heaven who loves them, and they can focus everything on Him.

Anyway, overall, it was a great week.  Enjoy your week, people!

Week 22 – Doñihue, Chile

Hey Everybody!

Things are going pretty good here.  This past week was pretty solid.  First, we had a zone conference on Tuesday.  That was pretty cool.  President Harris is so great.  First, we talked a lot about repentance and how we can apply it to ourselves and our investigators.  Then we talked about how we can be more consecrated.  Overall, it was a great time, and I learned a ton.

Also, this past week I discovered mate!!  It’s really interesting.  It’s like this drink that they do here.  It’s kind of like this herb that you put in a cup and then you add like juice hot water or whatever.  It’s not really tea or anything, but it is similar (but it’s not against the Word of Wisdom).  It’s strange.  It’s really bitter, but it’s honestly pretty darn good.

Overall, it was a good week.  Thanks for reading!

Love you guys,

Elder Halverson
